Notes towards a new poem

I walked around buildings today.

To make a long story short, I’m looking for new office space. Things changed rapidly last week and this and my staff and I found ourselves in the position of moving out of old offices without a solid new place to go. (It’s a LOOONNNNG story, so I won’t bore you with the details.)

But to get to the real thing: after looking around a possible and promising space (promising and expensive, hello), we were given the privilege of walking around an old building, one that’s been a rich man’s home, plantation-style, a private school and a major government office, and that’s now destined to become a museum. And the images of the afternoon are lodging themselves in my brain.

Some ideas:

a porch, a front lawn, dances, bathrooms, tiles, and cedar closet linings.
